Posted by on Nov 15, 2010 in Men's Style, Women's Petite Sizes, Women's Plus Sizes, Women's Style | 0 comments

If you are looking to shop for something specific and want my advice, look no further.  CBS has created a city-specific set of lists and WCCO contacted me to feature my picks on several lists. I visited each store listed (and many more that did not make the lists for various reasons) as part of my research.  It was great to finally see local boutiques I have heard about but had yet to visit. Without further ado, here are my local picks in these categories. Best Interview Outfits for...

11/7 #stylechat Summary: Shopping With/For Him

Posted by on Nov 14, 2010 in Men's Style, Twitter #stylechat | 0 comments

This #stylechat was inspired by a great idea from one of my favorite Tweeples, @sarahjaneml, who suggested an event for women to shop for men.  It led to this topic, as well as an evening at locally owned MartinPatrick3, a fantastic store I’ve dubbed Patina for men. Highlights from the chat include: The most success comes when partners shop together for him, when he is ready. He is ready when he is out of something or when there is a specific need.  He typically doesn’t shop just...

Posted by on Sep 14, 2010 in Fall/Winter, Men's Style | 2 comments

Going to an event where you may not know anyone is NEVER an excuse to dress like you’re going to a bar, sports event or backyard barbeque.  You should look respectable, intelligent and like someone people should get to know. Why? Because if you meet someone YOU want to know, you don’t want to get caught looking like you’re at the wrong place.  And if you’re still feeling the urge to fight my recommendation to sharpen up your look, ask yourself why. While you let that...

Why Conference or Unconference Wear Should Say “Work” and not “Weekend”

Posted by on Sep 12, 2010 in Fall/Winter, Men's Style, Women's Plus Sizes, Women's Style | 4 comments

I decided to write this column after attending several great local conferences over the past couple of months, including She’s Geeky Twin Cities and Minnesota Blogger Conference. When deciding what to wear to an event, weigh the options.  Is it more important to be comfortable, make a statement or look confident and put together? In many cases, you don’t know most of the people attending one of these events.  What if you go to an event and meet one or all of the following? The...

Fabuliss Introduces Michael and His Dreamy Shoe

Posted by on May 3, 2010 in Men's Style, Spring/Summer | 0 comments

Meet Michael.  He is an instructor for patients with traumatic brain injuries who happened to be at the same Minneapolis wi-fi spot I camped out at today. What initially caught my eye was Michael’s shoes.  He bought this pair at Nordstrom Rack because he “needed some brown shoes” and he says they’re really comfortable. It’s no surprise that he gets compliments every time he wears them. As it happens, he also knows how to put together a great smart casual ...
