Remember this dress from my last post?  Here are a few ways to style a casual cotton dress – from the casual office to the casual date night – with items from J.Crew’s summer collection. If you work in an office that is casual, consider the smart casual approach, which will help you maintain the casual feel with a sharper finish Bring simple, casual neutral pieces together to neutralize and complement the bright coral dress. Add professional elements like a jacket...

Oh the promise in this subject line.  Who doesn’t want to simplify?  So I clicked.  And then I had a few thoughts which became opinions, which are now ready to share with you. Introducing my (unpaid, unsolicited, un-everything) review of J.Crew’s Rumi, with their headline “Remarkable Rumi.” As with many things, there are pros and cons and this dress is no different. In general, I agree this is a great dress for summer with the caveat that I’d reserve it for...

What I’ve Been Wearing

Posted by on Aug 6, 2010 in Spring/Summer, Summer of Dresses 2010, Women's Petite Sizes, Women's Style | 0 comments

These photos have been patiently waiting in the queue since sometime in July.  At last, here are a couple of pink numbers that I quite liked! As usual, I’ve got navy as my neutral.  On the left, the pink linen skirt is one of my favorites for hot days.  It’s from Ann Taylor LOFT petites.  I paired it with my striped shirt from Kohl’s and my button-embellished cardigan from Talbots. Pink cotton shell – Ann Taylor LOFT petite.  This is a great shell with a lot of shape that cinches my waist. ...

This casual outfit combines a number of been-there-done-that items you’ve seen in some fashion before.  In general, I’ve been in skirts a lot more than dresses because they are easier to keep ironed.  But I *will* be wearing a dress today! Green cotton sweater: Talbots petite.  This is a great sweater to dress up a look with gold buttons and cute ruffles. Striped cotton shirt: Chaps petite for Kohl’s.  Still love this striped number for every day! Cotton denim skirt:...

Summer of (White) Dresses…Options Galore

Posted by on Jun 30, 2010 in Spring/Summer, Summer of Dresses 2010, Women's Petite Sizes, Women's Style | 1 comment

Who knew that Summer of Dresses would be gaining such great momentum?!?  The magazine Minnesota Monthly put out a call for ladies in white dresses and of course, I had to submit something! As you can see, I found a number of options between Von Maur, Macy’s and Nordstrom…some good, some not so good. Top row, left to right: This is my homemade white dress, made out of separates.  I took a couple of different photos with different accessories.  I’m not sure if I’ll...
